Beach daze

Bank holiday Monday on the beach with Emily. I don't know how I managed to get sand in everywhere when I didn't even sit down on the dam beach. Suppose I should just be happy it didn't end up in my knickers. Credit crunch has hit the beach as donkey rides have been subject to severe inflation; £2 for a ride, used to be like 20p didn't it...?

Scarborough coastline

Ice cream covered in hundreds and thousands with a fudge stick
"cough cough"

Tacky souvenirs (salt and pepper shakers)

Donkey rides at £2 a pop

Surfer dude

Surfing is the act of riding down a breaking wave, gathering speed from the downward and forward movement. It also translates to extreme hilarity when I'm involved as despite the number of lessons I've had and the time invested by my loyal and extremely patient friends I still suck, bad! The first photo is of me learning to surf when I was about 8 or so. The other 2 are of my friend Gen who is a kickass surfer of whom I am insanely jealous as she is the epitome of cool. Alas I am more of a "all the gear but no idea" type of gal, so in effect I look exactly like I know what I'm doing until I get in the water. Hummm.... we can't all be cool now can we ;-)

Killer Queen

My rents and I went to see Queen play at Castle Howard for an evening of rock, champagne and middle aged men playing air guitar! As it turns out, combining the stars from a smash hit West End musical (We Will Rock You), a 60 piece symphony orchestra, a rock band, the grounds of one of the grandest private residences in Britain and about £100,000 worth of fireworks is quite a good idea. Favourite Queen song? A Kind of Magic, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, We Are The Champions, Somebody To Love, Who Wants To Live Forever, Killer Queen, Don't Stop Me Know, Fat Bottomed Girls and I Want It All? TOO HARD TO CHOOSE!
Champagne picnic in the grounds of the castle before the concert
Holey socks
My dad hit the booze hard
But maybe a little too hard (ohh and notice how beautiful the
castle is in the background)
Light your lanterns when the sun goes down
My dad and I
Mum, Mike and Sophia watching the concert (this is before they
started doing some very inappropriate air guitar moves)
The newly purchased IKEA solar charged lanterns come up trumps
The 90 piece orchestra and the rock band
Fireworks at the end
Head torches at the ready so we can find our way home in the dark!
.
Ohh and if you were wondering, my air guitar skills rock, I've been taught by the best. Cough cough!

This is why you're fat

This would by my addition to This is why you're fat : toad in the hole with baked beans (i.e. sausages, in my case vegi ones, cooked in a Yorkshire Pudding which is like pancake batter but baked in the oven rather than cooked a pan like a pancake would be). My sister made it for dinner last week and you know what, it was lush!

Doughnuts to delish to slightly inebriated

Just listening to Florence and The Machine and still laughing at this catastrophic waste of doughnuts!

Fotos from the best meal I've eaten in a long long long time. Mixed seafood and pasta with peas with a Aperol spritz and 2 litres of cheap Italian red plonque to wash it all down. Yum!

Pied-à-terre

Just in case you've been wondering what my feet have looked like of late....

When in Rome...

A picture guide to Rome, from a native* :
Don't spend you're vacation with your nose in a guide book, just roam (get it?!)
LOOK UP!
Dress like a Roman!
Sample the local brew.
Deface some priceless 2000-year-old Roman sculpture.
Visit the Pantheon, it's breathtaking!
Place your hand in La Bocca della Verità (in English, "the Mouth of
Truth") but don't tell a lie or it will bite off your hand. No jokes.
Light a candle in one of Rome's 900 churches.
Check out the guards at the Vatican city, they wear the best uniforms.
Run down the spiral staircase in the Vatican museum.
Join a flock of tourists and snap snap snap in front of the Colosseum.
Make a wish at the Trevi fountain
BUT don't forget to send me a postcard!
x
Ciao...
